Scratching surface emulsion with an Awl/Sandpaper
- Dampen first with lukewarm water
- Try sanding with a bumpy object underneath the paper! (Keys, textured plates, etc…)
Watercolors/Paints/Markers
- Light colored photos work best
- If you sand photo first, it will create a contrasting surface texture
Gel Pens
- Add text
- Try extending lines and shapes that are already there
Bleach
- Always dilute the bleach with 1 part water to 1 part bleach.
- Make sure you have a shallow pan of water on standby so you can stop the bleach effect as soon as it begins working.
- This works best on dark photos.
- Use gel medium, stickers, or masking tape to create a resist before bleaching (peel off as you rinse bleach away)
Ink Jet Transfers
- Apply a thin even coat of gel medium onto area in which you want to transfer. Place the ink jet image face down onto the area in which you want to transfer. Use a brayer to apply even pressure to the back of the image. Let it sit for a minute or two and take a peek. If you like what you see, peel the image away.
